Food & coffee · From volcanic slope to perfect cup
Walk a family-run finca on the volcanic slopes around Antigua or Atitlán, then follow the bean from cherry to cupping table with the people who grow it.
The experience
Guatemala grows some of the most respected coffee in the world, and the Antigua valley is one of its most famous origins. Volcanic soil, high altitude, plenty of shade and cool nights produce the bright, chocolatey cups that roasters prize. Around Lake Atitlán, smallholder cooperatives grow beans just as good on slopes above the water.
We take you to farms we know personally, not to show plantations. You walk the rows with a grower, learn how shade trees and altitude shape the flavour, and see the wet mill where cherries are pulped, fermented and washed. Then you watch the beans dry on patios and roast in small batches.
The morning ends at the cupping table. You taste side by side, learn to pick out acidity, body and sweetness, and take home beans roasted that week. During harvest you can also put on a basket and pick alongside the team.
